William George Yendall



 

The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1931 26 July 1897

William Yendall, aged 79 years, enlisted at the age of 21 in the 51st Light Infantry.

He was a non-commissioned officer and mess butler, and was in the army for over 23 years.

He was in the Burmese War in 1852-53, and received a medal and clasp for Pegu?

He arrived with part of his regiment in Sydney in November 1838 and in Tasmania in 1839, where he remained until 1847.  

He was at Calcutta and Madras, and in 1852 at Burmah.

Later on he returned to Madras, and then to England, and was discharged in June, 1859.

In 1861 he arrived at WA and became a guard in the Convict Department.

For 24 years he has resided in South Australia, the greater part, of this time at Hindmarsh.
