Annie Maxwell

With deep regret we chronicle the death of Mrs W H Beazley, of this district. Quite a gloom overshadowed our little community when it became known that she departed this life early on Sunday morning, the 15 inst.

Mrs Beazley was the sixth daughter of James Maxwell, late of Ararimu North, and has resided a long time in Motukaraka. She was a woman of very kindly disposition and her cheerful presence will be mush missed in our social gatherings.

Great sympathy is felt for the bereaved family and we too have lost a good neighbour and a sincere friend.

The funeral took place on Tuesday the 17th, leaving the house at 11:30 am. A large numebr of relations and friends attanded from all parts of the river. There were many floral tributes and as the cortage left the house the coffin was saluted by the Motukaraka girl scouts drawn up in a line, their staves tied withblack ribbon. Two boy scouts acting as path finders in front of Rev, W H Edgell headed the sorrowful procession to the cemetery. All along the path the natives had strewn broken branches of green as a token of their respect and sympathy. At the grave the vurial service was conducted by the officiating clergyman with becoming dignity and reverence.
