Dickies of Tannahil

A story about the earliest of the Muirs and Dickies ancestors from the Dickie Reunion Book 1963.

That the Muirs of Tannahill were descended from a Covenanter who, at the age of 14, fought at the battle of Bothwell Brig 1679, and lost an ear.

Notes also mentioned a tradition that there were three David Muirs at Tannahill.

It was three sisters of the last David Muir married three Dickie brothers.

The last David Muir died unmarried and was succeeded in Tannahill by his brother-in-law David Dickie, husband of Mary Muir.

Three generations of Muirs lived at Tannahill from 1700 to 1788 and were followed by three generations of Dickies from 1778 to1862. Another David Dickie and son of Robert Dickie from Tannacrieff rented Tannahill from 1868 to 1884 and it was his brother Robert Dickie who retired from Tannahill in 1926.

Tannahill, Gainhill and Tannacrieff were a part of the Rowallan Estate, owned by the Mures of Rowallan.
